Ever since I saw the Guggenheim's Retrospective years ago I've been waiting for a repeat; well this is it.
It starts with what are (to me) his academic, imitative and beginning efforts to reflect his artistic times in 1907-9; then starts to look like "Kandinsky" as early as 1911-13 (a fast learner); and by 1922 is painting as the Kandinsky we know and love.
Interestingly for me anyway, I found the works in the last room from the 1930's and '40's to be almost playful experiments by an assured mature artist - not needing to sell or please anyone, he seems to be just having fun and I did too, just seeing them.
It runs 'til August 10th, then goes to the Guggie for its 50th Birthday.
