5.7 Reed aka Catherine Reed, 11 bis rue Amelie in the 7th, 01.45.55.88.40, closed Sundays and Mondays, is a place Margaret, mentioned on Paris by Mouth, essentially wondering why it was touted by one poster on websites (but, [my interpretation], never reviewed by the print media folk nor those of us on PbM). So that's a challenge (for me at least) and I went with a new friend who works with a lot of folks in the industry, albeit not a journalist, and eats out here a lot, and knows her stuff.
The menu is pretty straightforward and there's also a "menu" with 2 mains, which sounded quite good. But we ordered off the carte, which sounded even more interesting.
My eating partner had a tarte with winter vegetables and I the rillettes of mackerel with lots of rocket and vegetables and perfectly crisped toast (good product all).
Then she had the chicken with quartered romaine lettuce with terrific dressing and I the blaquette of veal "old style," with white rice and wonderful marinated mushrooms (tangy and tasty). Both dishes, for "simple" items, were so much above average.
We both were full but the three desserts starring us in the face 4 feet away called and we shared what was called a chocolate mousse pie/tarte and we both loved it.
With a bottle of wine (and 2 extra glasses to wash down the pie), no bottled water and two coffees, our bill was 102 E.
Go? My goodness yes. Don't let the lack of reviews in the print media sway you, listen to the drums beating strongly on the web.
Thanks for taking one for the team, John. Good deeds do go unpunished.
