Brief Encounters with Che Guevara by Ben Fountain (Harper Collins): Books on Wednesdays

Yes, yes, I know, I’m supposed to deal with books on food, etc., but there aren’t enough good ones out there.

However, this book of short stories, many published in Zoetrope:All-Story is about the best bunch of suchlike I’ve read since John Cheever’s and John Updike’s.

Short stories are not short long stories nor easy to toss off, but Fountain makes the craft look easy.

A great book; buy it, read it.
