5.0 (for what it is) Rosa Bonheur, (named after the artiste, got it? Why? Ask someone else), 2 allee de la Cascade (in the Buttes Chaumont, if you know the Buttes, you'll know how to find it, otherwise wander until you find it at the top of the park, halfway between the Botzaris and the Buttes Metro stations), in the 19th (Metro: Botzaris, Buttes Chaumont), 01.42.00.00.45 (but they don’t take reservations), closed: Mondays and Tuesdays and supposedly open from 12-12 but they often open late because they have trouble getting their act together and close late because of the foule, reportedly as many as 1000 per night, a la carte is about 25 €. Warning - no cards.
This is a place that's been on every critic's top list - top terrasse, top open in August, top of the Spring, top of the hat (no, sorry that was a tip by Jimmy Hatlo), etc. My best, most reliable, most cherished pal in town assured me that it was a great place; which, while serving bar food, was beautifully sited and she walked her dog there every weekend, how about meeting up then? So we agreed to meet with dog, boyfriend and son of BF.
I arrived at 12 sharp as instructed, having been warned that tables filled up very quickly - ahhhh, closed, shuttered, but lights on inside and guy bringing in garbage bins. Waited on bench in the sun, ahhhh. 12:10, nothing; 12:20, zip; 12:30, heads of small individuals peeped up in windows; then my invitors showed up.
What do we do? Bail out? Is Mark Singer open today? I doan wanna go to QueDuBon. Should we wait, they may open soon.
Victoria's Messenger arrives. Doors open, Shutters go up, People appear here and there. We go to the Group "W" line, "we" know because "we've" been here before as opposed to the crowd of Birthday celebrators and others waiting to be served.
But it does take a while to crank out an orange juice for son of BF, some time to dig out of frigo huge tupperware containers ham, tomatoes, salami, tapenade and a tin of duck rillettes straight off the shelf and no time to schpritz me a filette of red wine. Ahhh, that sort of place.
Go back to benches out front and to the side, sit, enjoy. Actually pretty good stuff; ham above average, salami fine, rilettes quite good, tapenade watery and sweetish and strange. Bread average Banette stuff.
Bill (I only paid for myself so it may not reflect my mouching correctly) = 18 Euros.
Go? If in the Buttes and it's warm and indeed hot, indeed. But it is what it is. Nothing cooked/hot (I asked about the chipirons which mysteriously appeared and disappeared from the ardoise - aucun idee).
