Emile Zola’s Belly of Paris (Trans. Mark Kurlansky) Modern Library NY 2009.
This new translation of the Zola classic is wonderful; a great yarn with such great descriptions of Les Halles in the great old days, food and products. The concentration on meats, charcuteries, vegetables, fish and cheese almost reaches obsessive proportions.
A friend recommended it to me and I heartily recommend it to you.
