Le 122: Le Bistrot d'Hier & d'Aujourd'hui in the 7th is a real gem of a find. Located as it is in the midst of Minister-heaven, it calls all those toiling over the holidays in the faceless/thankless positions in the Ministries of Transportation, Immigration and Defense (post Flight 253), but certainly not Education, to table, some even with female companions (it's not my role to Tiger them out).
We entered an empty place (the Ministers truly respect their Cinq a Sept obligations and don't surface until 13h30-15h00) and were warmly greeted by our host, Farid Saidia, who recalled me and where we sat a couple of weeks ago. In chatting, he asked where I and Madame were from (the 18th), no truly from (Barackland), noting that many Americans frequented the place since the affable Joe Ray wrote it up in the Boston Globe advising readers to go "there before it’s overrun with ministers" Darn, missed that article.
In any case, I started with a trilogy of soups (the best of which, the mushroom, a droit, was consumed before I remembered to take a pix, plus pumpkin and Jerusalem artichoke)
Colette had the best scallops she's had in.......Ok let's say a long time, topped with gambas and herbs with a sprig of lemon-grass and those mouth watering discs of pumpkin and pistachio; I had an equally good but not nearly as photogenic casserole of a joue de boeuf and veggie stew with lasagna over and below.
For dessert she had the pear crumble with chocolate which she loved.
The bill (with a nice unrough, tamed, Languedoc) was 66.50 E.
