5.1 Cul de Poule, 53 rue des Martyrs in the 9th, 01.53.16.13.07, closed Sundays and Mondays, 20 for 2 courses, 27 € for 3 at night and 14 for 2 courses and 17 for 3 at lunch was a place where the maestro Yanning Samot, (of La Famille, Cheri Bibi + Refectoire) served my charming ex-eGullet-co-host and I a simple but reasonably-priced meal 15 months ago. Today, another friend in the food biz wanted to return and so we did, to what I termed then "a diamond in the rough."
It was pretty much the same. Very reasonable, simple, good food with no frills. (The name by the way, our intrepid blogger-writer-friend informed us, doesn't just mean "pope's nose" as my Iowa-farmboy father used to call it, but a pan for mixing mayo).
The two starters offered were carrott soup (very good) and the above-pictured tartare of salmon which had a soy and sesame sauce (almost oysterish said our chef friend).
The two mains offered were a cuisse de canard and hirondelle fish (not bird, which the waitperson described as like daurade); both very tasty and simple.
All of us then had one bite of a mi-cuit of chocolate that was tres bien cuit, unfortunately.
With a bottle and glass of wine and six coffees the bill was 86 Euros.
