6.5 La Moustache, 3, rue Sainte-Beuve in the 6th (Where? Ah, next to Le Timbre), not to be confused with the gay Cafe Moustache on the Fbg St Martin in the 10th, 01.42.22.56.65, closed Sundays and Saturday and Monday at lunch, has been open since mid-June but received little notice and may suffer from being #2 to Spring in this week's Figaroscope, which would be a pity, because it can stand on its own, very well indeed, thank you.
I went with my friend R., who has a keen palate and writes for another webpub and the two of us did well.
He started with the green asparagus with a parmesan crisp and I had a "salad" of calamars and Tiger shrimp with sliced zucchini that had a wonderful Asian zip to it.
Then he had what I thought was boring sliced chicken breast with a sate sauce and very good wok'd veggies and I had one of the best pieces of beef I've ever had. It was thinly sliced and had some sort of coating that was intriguing along with a sauce that added nothing to this superb dish; with it I had a green salad.
We elected to share what was called a peach clafoutis but was not flat as in a pie but made in a glass; it was also very, very good and the ice cream ideally complemented it.
I should mention that the bread was good and they offer both bottled water and an Illy coffee with each plat which I thought was a most gracious touch.
The bill (although he picked it up) I spied was 102 E (and that included a bottle and apero glass of wine.)
Go? I'd say so; like Clocher Periere, Le 122 and Marcab, it's not fancy but it is plain good grub.
