We went to Le Casse Noix for the third time with a local denizen who very quickly declared the cooking simple and a lot; Colette thought it traditional and delicious and I opined: Grand-ma's cooking with a modern twist. Who's right? Who knows?
I started off with oeufs mayo, some of the best I've had, but the salad a part was too much and friend V's poule with foie gras terrine was equally good and had as equally large a salad.
For mains, Colette had a wonderful bar with "spaghetti" vegetables and a "bolognese" of crustaceans (really tiny clams, coques, confited tomatoes and green leaves with a "zippy" sauce and V. and I had the confited quail with cumin flavored veggies.
Now V. allowed a photo of his rice pudding to be taken before plunging in, but Colette was so taken by her moelleux of chocolate that it was gone in a flash - tant pis!
Our bill, with two bottles of wine (one greater, one lesser prix-quality), no bottled water and two coffees came out to 101.66 E a couple.
Go? Well, a month ago or two months ago I would have pleaded with you to go because this is/was a chef with great talent serving good chow at reasonable prices and one could walk in; but no longer, it's bursting at the seams; reserve, reserve, reserve.
