On the Road Again: RT to Maine

For our summer vacation eating I offer a few suggestions of “Best of’s” between New Jersey and Maine and back.

In Pennington, NJ we continue to find the sushi and composed dishes, such as shrimp and vegetables to be super at Edo Sushi.

Once Upon a Table in Stockbridge MA offers an OK Reuben and Caesar.

The Blue Heron in Sunderland MA excels in its cheese and charcuterie platters.

And Cotton in Manchester NH, a city where the slackers have acres of tattoos and the working stiffs do not, had the best fried potatoes of the decade (would that American and Parisian chefs took lessons from them).

This was our second year at Cava in Portsmouth NH and everything was perfectly spicy from the gazpacho to the paella.

The Foreside Tavern was ideal for our Gang of 12, with the kids enjoying the chicken tenders and wraps and adults finding the fried halibut and salads very honorable.

One afternoon in Boothbay Harbor, the “gang” enjoyed lunch at the Blue Moon, a sandwicherie at the edge of the  harbor, that was very good of its kind. 

Colette and a flower-loving friend enjoyed lunch at the extraordinary Boothbay Botanical Garden. 

Back in Portsmouth I had a wonderful fried haddock at Surf.  Our outdoor table, overlooking the harbor was very pleasant. 

In Providence RI the blueberry “cake” at Bacaro was spectacular despite the incredible din.

And for our "last meal" the following day I had outasight Bristol oysters at Hemenway’s.
