6.1 Chameleon in the 10th (not to be confused with Jean-Paul Arabian's Cameleon in the 6th), 70 Rue Rene-Boulanger, 01.42.08.99.41, lunch Monday-Friday, dinner Tuesday-Saturday, Metro: Strassbourg-St Denis is astonishing. I approached from the Metro side and took one look at the sandwich menu on the street and said to myself "sh*t", sandwiches, well, suck it up, life could be worse." But 10 feet further along was the restaurant ardoise - "Whew, real food."
The place is light, bright and all undampened surfaces so with a few ladies with a few glasses of wine the old decibelmeter climbed up close to 90 dB. But the mood was festive, summer was on its way (maybe, finally) and life was good. We all three started with grilled asparagus - a dangerous move in case it was a disasater - but no, they were terrific, with a mayo and watercress sauce that perfectly set them off.
Then we went our ways, culinarywise - Madame having "the best magret I've ever had", Monsieur the Morcilla del Burgo (blood sausage slices) recalling that he had in Burgo so long ago and me an onglet of beef (3 E suppliment), cooked perfectly to my Blue desire with fries like I've never had in France - I loved 'em.
At this point the three of us were very happy and demolished the rhubarb tart before I had a chance to photo it, but no matter, it too was very good.
With a bottle of Pintoresco Tempranillo, superb bread of two types and three coffees, our bill amounted to 51.33 E a couple - beat that!.
Go? Back as soon as we can.
