Clamato in the 11th is a place I loved a few weeks ago and thought with the huge array of offerings it would be fun to come with a larger group; thus when a friend in the diplomatic corps told me he and his daugter were back on R&R and could join his Paris-based wife and son and the two of us - we had 6 to sample their wares. Since he grew up in a wine entrepot, he chose a terrific bio red and Colette chose a bio white. And off to the races we were.
Before we get to the food.. I must report on our wonderful waiter. When asked where he came from he pointed out the wondow above the pretty garden and said.... "from the sky". We learned that he is actually from the Piedmont and he was just delightful & very helpful.
OK, so from top to bottom: cod fritters with a wankaina sauce; curried celery remoulade; line-caught swordfish ceviche with lime; cold beef with an achovy and green mustard sauce; line-caught maigre with radishes and cilantro; beets with fresh cheese and watercress; scallops with endives and orange' and lentilles with smoked eel and mustard seeds. OH BOY!
For desserts they had: a tartelette of maple syrup and chantilly and a financier with Sicilian lemons and ice cream. After a few dishes my old pal who is stuck in a combat zone for another 9 months turned to me and said "each dish has dazzling flavors, this is really good stuff." He was correct, every one of our 10 dishes was different, flavorful , inventive and intelligent.
Our bill for 6, with 2.5 bottles of wine and 3 coffees but no bottled water - was 188.00, thus 62.66 E a couple. Colette loved the company and the meal and urges others to go early (12 noon) and with a group of friends as we did today. (recall, there are no reservations for Saturday & Sunday lunch).
Soooo Muchhh Yammy :P I am feeling hungry.
