6.0 La Ferme Saint Simon, 6, rue Saint Simon in the 7th, 01.45.48.35.74, open 7/7 (Metro: Rue du Bac) has been around forever, well at least 1933 an when I went in the 1960's it was quaint and farmy, then in 2007 an exMaison du Danemark chef took over and the place became fishafied; but recently was totally refurbished by the Argentinian architect Marcelo Joulia (ex-Unico and Clandestino) with a new team installed and now it looks 2014-ish.
They started us off with an amuse-guele of what else - a pumpkin soup - and we started ourselves off with a bottle of Chateau La Garenne, a Lussac-Saint Emilion. The carte is vertiginous (probably 60-100 E) but they have a 3-course "menu" at 35 E with 2-2-2 choices.
My two pals from the nabe and I did the boring thing - we ordered the same things for our firsts and masins - a lovely piece of mackerel on top of a winter ratatouille that had a taste different from most (quite interesting) and joue de boeuf wrapped in cabbage with two pieces of bone and its marrow atop of really tasty mashed potatoes.
For dessert we went our separate ways - my friends with the ile flottant and me with the deconstructed St Honore which was super-good.
Our bill, with a bottle and a half of wine, no bottled water, terrific bread and three coffees was 162 E or 108.00 E a couple.
Go? Hummmm, I'm on the edge on this one. I don't think Colette or my other neighbors will buy the forced 2-2-2 choices. But it was quiet (78.8 dB), had private rooms and is really elegant.
