Le BAT in the 9th has been open for quite a few months but I suspect that because it originally said it served tartines at lunch and tapas at night, hence the Bar A Tartines/Bar A Tapas moniker, some folks avoided it - including dumb me. But when I ate here at the urging of the RFC, last month it was spectacular, and with its two guiding geniuses - Yariv Berreby at the piano and Jerome Taverny at the door - it was as warm, welcoming and innovative as any place in town.
How innovative? How about these:
- Sardines with microtomed Spring veggies
- A tataki of (no, not fish) but lamb with anchovy sauce
- Raviolis of crab with a crab bisque.
And then these:
- Grilled pork which was as tender as baby veal
- Shrimp with quinoa and a bowl of vegetables tempura
- Joues de boeuf, the weakest dish.
We finished up by sharing:
- Some cheese and
- A tart with berries.
With two bottles of Chilean Bicicleta, two Cokes, two coffees, no bottled water and decent enough bread, our bill for five was 177 E, thus 70.80 E a couple.
Go? Indeed - Yariv & Jerome have done a superb job here and the waiter Pierre speaks great English.
