Les Climats in the 7th has become a regular place for us, open as it is on May 1st, if you can believe it. We chose to sit on the veranda facing the garden rather that the cosy bar or lush interior room; there was light, air and great service. Today's chef was Julien Boscus, ex-Meneau, Anton, Gagnaire & Alleno - not last time's wizard - Phan Chi Tam, a VietNamese-Frenchman who has worked at the Ritz, Mandarin Oriental and Kiku, whom we ate with on a Saturday.
Well now, boringly, we all ordered and had the same dishes, so inviting were they:
- an amuse-gueule of fougasse(s) of (was it) cantal and a toasty thing with black olives,
- a first of snails and mushrooms covered with a big raviolo with a parsley sauce,
- tender, tender spring lamb with spring peas, a puree of peas and superb pickled red onion bits,
- a deconstructed rhubarb and cream concoction, and finally
- mignardises of chocolate and macaroons. My my my!
Our bill, with two bottles of a fine Old vine Beaujolais Villages, superb bread and butter and three coffes (no bottled water of course), was 215 E for 4, or 107.50 per couple.
