6.1 750 G La Table (aka 750 grammes), 397, rue de Vaugirard in the 15th, 01.45.30.18.47, open 7/7 (Metro: Porte de Versailles) is a wonderful new space with great light across from the Soviet-type building nearly at the end of Paris's longest street - the rue de Vaugirard.
After some peanuts, which caused my dining partner to have a a suppressed culinary orgasm, he ordered a plate of charcuterie which he only realized after struggling to finish three quarters of which, that it was supposed to be shared and I had the sweetbreads and mushrooms - both were terrific cold day dishes.
For mains, he had an onglet topped with sauteed foie gras and I the paleron, both of beef of course and they were as ordered.
We finished up with a chocolate liegois.
Our bill, with no bottled water, a bottle of a Rhone and 2 awful coffees, was 83.90 E.
Go? It's a nice Sunday option.
Mr Talbott - Thrilled to have found your site just ahead of a visit to Paris! -have already added a few of your recommendations to our list for the week. I've visited Paris many times - but it's been a few years and my knowledge of Paris in any case relative to yours could fit in a thimble. My boyfriend, who joins me on this trip, has never been.
I'd like to take him to one totally over-the-top, don't-dare-look-at-the-bill, just fill your senses with the beauty of the magnificent meal kind of evening. The last time I experienced that was at the Fat Duck in the UK ... hoping for something equally spectacular.
We'll be there Christmas week, so I know that limits our choices somewhat (arriving the 22nd) ... But would you be kind enough to make a recommendation (or two, in case we can't get in to the first choice)?
Thank you very much!

I am not really current on over the top places; I and my readership tend to focus on 80-120 E a couple (with liquids). Chowhound France has several threads on such celebratory dinners though.
That said I think both the Tour d'Argent and Grade Cascade meet your criteria and have great settings.
