The Cafe du Coin, 9, rue Camille Desmoulins in the 11th, 01.48.04.82.46, closed almost never, (Metro: Voltaire (Leon Blum)) is one of those/these neighborhood finds, that are so far away for us, in the 18th, that we wouldn’t frequent were it not so great. We went again today, its 40th day the menu said, and they were warm, welcoming and wonderful.
Our great French friend who, as we sat talking. recalled the days of 1968, as do we, came down from the 20th and we settled in for some serious dining. There were three firsts and we each preferred one, our friend, the veloute of a Jerusalem artichoke type thing with fish eggs, Colette the multi-colored carrots, and I the pizzeria with raclette and spicy greens.
Then with only two choices of mains, Colette took the “ minestrone” of shellfish and mini-bits of butternut squash and our pal and I, of all things, fried chicken with salad, half of which will serve as dinner tonight.
For desserts we shared 2 portions of Ok panacotta and one spectacular Financier.
Our bill, with two bottles of two sheep wines, from the Gard, no bottled water but 3 coffees, was 110.90€ or 73.93 € a couple.
