4.0 La Traversee, 2, rue Ramey in the 18th, 09.54.86.79.95, closed Saturday lunch and Sundays (Bus: 80) is one of the dozen new places on the Mont that prompted my Chinese-inclined friend to posit that the hill had newfound feng shui. The outside facade is tiny, which worried me until I realized the place had three floors and a railway type configuration running (duh) traversely between the Rue Ramey and Rue de Clignancourt. The menu/carte is wonderful, with promises of delights to come. But,.....
My actrice friend, a student in the area for years, was excited, as was I, by what we saw. She started off with the cod croquettes with hummus and salad, which were not bad, but were nothing special. I on the other hand, was delighted by my Paris and shitaki mushrooms and greens with a zippy dressing.
Then she had a strip of beef ordered medium and I what was called a duck breast ordered blue. When I got the duck it looked more like a sliced hot dog and while the vegetables, especially the keeks, were nice, the duck was lukewarm and so over cooked I couldn’t eat it (PS, no one noticed; perhaps because by then the place was jam-packed with locals of a young age).
We shared a brioche perdu for dessert which was surprisingly bland and unexciting.
Our bill, with the equivalent of a bottle of wine, but by the glass (which is a whole other language/jetlag story), house water and one coffee was €69.20. Db’s= 80.9
Go? Given the prices (3 courses for €20), interesting sounding choices, occasional hit, popularity among the locals and terrifically nice wait-staff, great reviews (8/10 in the jdd) etc., the answer should be easy, but based on our meals, I defer to others.
