Pre: I’ve gotten several nice inquiries as to my health, since I left July 15th, as always, and returned today, as always. Despite the ravages of aging, from ears and eyes to toes, I’m doing fine, thanks. I’ve stopped posting the Digest in July and August because there’s less and less news on Paris restaurants.
Pre2: people have an innate need to label, whether it’s mental illnesses or athletic performances or restaurant cuisines. Today’s lunch is a typical example. What was it? Bar a manger, bistronomique, postbistro, neobistro, restaurant moderne, bio-naturalique? Quite frankly my dears, I don’t give a damn, it was good, inventive, seasonal, tasty, diverse food in a food desert.
Pre3: I usually eat at new restaurants, unless Colette is with me. But new can include new sites, new owners, new chefs or new decor. Today at O Divin, it was pretty new everything.
7.1 O Divin, 66, rue Guy Moquet in the 17th, 01.45.80.40.44, open 7/7 has been at this location but a few months and sent me an email saying they were open all August. OK. It’s very different from its prior incarnations, no longer wine bar, small and with few tables but still a totally local clientele.
There’s are outdoor tables, an epicerie/wine display in the front room (providing me with several dinners of sausages, cheese, white beans, etc) and tables in a back room serving a menu o f 3-3-3 items plus a large kitchen by Paris standards.
Now silly me read one side of the ardoise outside and immediately seized on the ceviche and pigeon but alas that was for dinner and the lunch side looked less interesting but more healthy
My fellow blogger suggested we share the terrine of boudin noir with lettuce and a pickle. The terrine was silky smooth and on the two terrific breads was a wonderful starter.
Then she had the huge portion of cod that she claimed was about the best ever and I had tomatoes stuffed with a tasty almost spicy pork forcemeat with sliced zucchini that was a return to that old classic.
For dessert we shared a top of the line Paris Brest and then had some halva with our coffee.
With a bottle of my favorite vintners, the Bretons, wine and a glass of white Languedoc.
Our bill was 62€?
Go? With certainty!
