6.5 Le Saint Hilaire, 11, rue du Pont Saint-Hilaire in Chartres, 02.37.30.97.57, closed Sundays and Mondays, is a 10 minute down hill walk from the Cathedral, where we sat in on 85 year old Malcolm Miller’s zillionth informative talk on the church and its famous stained glass windows and mostly cleaned and renovated architecture. We were steered here by serious food friends who were disappointed to learn that the resto's two rooms were fully booked earlier this year.
They have one formula and three “menus” and we went for the mid-range one. But first off, we had a lovely amuse butternut soup, velvety and tasty.
Then all three of us had petoncles in a whiskey sauce, most inventive; then one serving of a lovely bar and 2 portions of magret de canard with fall mushrooms. Both were delicious.
Finishing up we shared a strawberry tart, citrus fruits covered with meringue bits and mignardises of a pistachio cream.
Our bill with a bottle and half of wine and three coffees, was 170€ or 113.32€ a couple. db's only the noise we three made.
Go? If in Chartres, why not?
