Pre: I’ve been coming here since my first trip to France in 1953, so over 60 years, at first just to gawk, then have a coffee, then a serious but not spectacular dinner, then meeting up periodically with a great friend who arrived from Geneva on the TGV; but I’ve always cautioned folks to expect nothing from the food, but savor the decor. Well, things have sure changed for the better under the House of Rostang.
5.8 Le Train Bleu in the Gare de Lyon, 01.43.43.09.06 (Metro: Gare de Lyon), open 7/7, remains as beautiful as always but finally has food befitting it’s surroundings. My fellow blogger had already decided what both of us would have when I finally arrived having struggled up the stairs after unsuccessfully searching for the elevator entrance. And she was spot on.
She started off with a first rate slice of game terrine en croute with a fig garniture which she generously shared with me. Then she had five quenelles de brochet with a quite special sauce while I had perfectly undercooked slices of leg of lamb from a classic rolling cart with divine potatoes. To finish I had the Menu Voyageur dessert, pears and cream which she helped me with.
With a bottle of Blaye that opened up beautifully, no bottled water, but two coffees, our bill was 145€? Db’s = a loud 84.1
Go? I’m delighted to finally be able to say yes for both the setting and food.
