Pre: So, people write me, “follow” me, apparently trust me, and here and on other websites do due diligence and wind up saying afterwards “Thanks John, we were pooped after “doing” the Louvre but we found this darling little bistro that no one knows about, where the patrons are all French, and it was the best meal of our stay.” Snobs, like me, sniff and think “Yah, sure” But.....
But maybe they are right, because today, three of us were headed to a restaurant that a trusted wine importer suggested, at which my host reserved and confirmed and we moseyed up to find it closed, dark, dead, defunct, dank, gone.
To our cellphones! Aux Armes! As the three of us are fiddling around, the Alpha among us says, “there’s Pertinances on Rue de l’Exposition, not far away........no, well there's this 7eme VIN across the street.” “Oh yah, I’ve passed it many times, any good?” “Dunno, but they serve food, OK, let’s see.”
7.3 Le 7ème VIN, 68 ave Bosquet in the 7th, 01.45.51.15.97, closed Sundays, (Metro: Ecole Militaire), was the third restaurant in a row I’ve fallen upon in the last three days, that was packed to the gills, serving only French clients, and totally unpretentious, PS with superb service.
We three plopped down, at least I did, and looked at the carte - wow, it’s fall. Pumpkins, fruit tart and St. Nectaire on the counter. One of us started with a poached egg with broiled ham or chorizo in a basque sauce while two of us had the girolles and cepes. My oh my! Then Madame had the chicken breast forestiere which was only equaled by the men’s foie gras with fruit chutney. M. ended with a piece of St. Nectaire and I has the cafe gourmand with chocolate mousse, a compote of fall fruits, a slice of liquored baba and nice coffee.
Our bill, with a sufficient amount of red and white Chorey-les-Beaux and 26€ in supplements, was 215.50€ or 142€ a couple. (But, but, but, they have a menu at 16.50 for 2 courses and 27E for three). Db’s were 81.2, wheelchair access is up a 2 inch ramp.
Go back? Definitely. This is “old boy, old school, Trad, etc. food”. No frou-frouing around here. And many thanks to my host whose memory and geographical sense was spot on.
